Zaire in September 1974. The sports-writer Harry Reschke wants to grab his alleged last chance. He lost his money and wife and career to his cocaine addiction. And now, amidst his recovery he travels to Zaire to write a book about the "Rumble in the Jungle". The millennial fight between George Foreman and Muhammad Ali. As the fight has to be postponed Reschke stays stranded in Kinshasa for five weeks, he more and more gets lost in the madness of a dictatorial state. An officer of Zaires security establishment seems to be very interested in Reschkes doings, and also a phantomlike colleague from Germany is after him and his book. Smoking weed and drinking Bourbon with the American writer Bill Cardoso brings Reschke to the brink of relapse and total insanity as they get lost in Kinshasas nightlife and brutal history of colonization. His project and future become more and more at risk, as the night of the great fight approaches.
