Fake for real. Radio drama on the edge between fiction and reality in times of post-truth – Walter Filz (ARD-SWR/Germany)
Once upon a time, fake was just a funny game. Films, theatre and radio drama loved to play in the broad field between fiction and reality. It worked because most people knew the difference and agreed on what was true or not. But in the last few years, things have changed radically. The broad field became a small edge. We're living in the age of post-truth. Nothing and nobody seem to be reliable. Everyone calls everything fake news. Misinformation, hoaxes, propaganda and false content seem to be everywhere. Since it is so unclear about what is truth and what is not, what about working and playing with the possibilities offered by mixing reality and fiction? (Remember: the first and still most popular radio drama was a fake news play, War of the Worlds.)
